A very early knot idea. Two interlocking knots combine to create a round cross.

All knots in this gallery have Danish place names. I spent a good amount of time exploring Denmark and Scandinavia, working on farms with cows!

This knot eventually became a CelticGold Silver Broach.

During my time on the Isle of Man, I fortuitously connected with a jeweler in Peel who ran a jewelry shop called CelticGold.

He wanted help with Celtic designs and I needed a job so I worked there on-and-off for two years. In my time with him, I helped design several items including rings, broaches, earrings and a medal for the Centenary of the Manx Music Festival. Every winner got a medal.

I learned how to work with silver and gold and how to enamel! You can see my enamel work on the silver broach I designed. My hand was not as good then as it is now.

A more organic version - this time entwined with a circle. Making this 3 lines : 4 petals : 13 crossings

The Vikings had a major influence on the Gaelic nations and wider Europe as a whole. They journeyed and traded with all the Celtic Nations. Some say they raped and pillaged - they did - but they co-existed for centuries. They shared their expertises with locals. Dublin was founded by Vikings.

Another simple early knot. One four petaled line looped with a ring.

One of the big cultural exchange’s between the Vikings and the Celts was the art. Both cultures had long histories of art. The Vikings used under and over motifs just as the Celts did. It was a rich cultural artistic fusion.

Similar bold knot to the one above. Imagine this as a Viking warrior’s shield.

While I was traveling, I made sure to visit art & cultural museums. I was lucky enough to visit several national museums in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden & Finland. I even got as far as Estonia.

Similar knot to the one above - this time with an added ring.

The Scandinavians - particularly the Danes - hold art and design in high regard. Higher than many a country. I remember going to a local hardware shop in southern Jutland. They had 30 different types of beautifully designed cutlery. In just one local shop.
