~ ARTIST STATEMENT ~

Since I was 10 I have been making art.
It’s a compulsion, an obsession and devotion.
I only made art for myself. Cos I must.
I explored, adventured and
played in lines, shapes and colours.
I absorbed art from many library books
and art museums across Europe.
I was deeply inspired by what I saw.
Then I saw the book of Kells.

I had my own ideas.
Many of them. 100's.
Well over 3,000+ to date.
With who knows how many more
fresh ideas awaiting my focus.

It may sound odd
I didn’t want to be an artist.
I wanted to make art.
I need to sate my passion!

It never crossed my mind
that others might like it.
I did think it might be fun to share
but I never had the courage
or capability until now.

it is my deepest pleasure to finally share
my secret passion with you.

~ A BRIEF HISTORY OF RUST ~

1960s
My parents ran away to the sun
to Gibraltar from Northern Ireland
to escape the rain &
open a Nightclub
called the Chimney Corner.
That’s where I was born [’68]
with a full head of red hair.

Over a lifetime, mom & dad owned/ran
3 nightclubs, 3 restaurants, 3 pubs, 2 hotels,
a cafe, an event & hospitality company
and raised two children.

I have lived in 10 different countries
at 68 different addresses
11 addresses by the age of 10.

1980s
As a teen
I grew up in the family hotel
in southern England &
attended catholic school
then catering college.

I’ve lived in 3 of the six Celtic nations.
Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man
I did terrible at 7 schools.
Failed college. Twice.
Ran the family pub [UK] at 18.
By 21, it was sold.

1990
We moved to the Isle of Man again
to manage two nightclubs.
We won the contract to run the
hospitality at the Worlds famous
Isle of Man TT Races
and other events.
For 10 years.

1995…
Having worked with the family so long
I decided to go more of my own way.
I moved to Dublin and still returned
to work the big events in the IOM:
TT/GrandPrix/CycleWeek/ManninFestival

Work was hard to find back then in Dublin
I had to claim the dole or scratch
like so many others
The unemployment said:
You gotta re-train.
So I trained as a graphic designer.

2000s
I produced a newspaper and
magazine for 6 years.
Met a lass from Ohio.
Proposed on the Giants Causeway NI.
Eventually moved to South Boston
where we raised two beautiful souls.
I was a stay at home dad and even
joined the MomClub [of SouthBoston]
as my wife had a good job.
I worked as a contract production designer for
Dunkin/Energizer/Subway/Crocs/DrPepper,
and others.

2010's
Then some disruption:
A very late and surprising diagnosed
of ADHD/Dyslexia. An Ah!-Ha! Moment!
We separated and I stayed close.
Still good close friends and parents.
I had many addresses & different contracts.
Print work is deminishing -
Being overtaken by ai & digital.
Thought I'm still applying.
Sigh!

New Years 2024
I met Jodie
We became solid friends
She so got me and my art
She encouraged and supported me
Gave me shelter
Pushed me to exhibit and make this site.
With the kindness of her genius brother.

I am deeply thankful to
